Dear Parishioners:

  • Thank you, Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P, for your Love and Generous of time during your summer visit this year and other Holidays to celebrate Sunday Eucharist with our parish community. We are truly blessed with your presence and the wisdom you share with us. May you find Joy and Relaxation of your time here with your family and our parish community.

  • Please remember to say a prayer for the late Archbishops, Raymond G. Hunthausen, on his Second Anniversary of his death (Archbishop Hunthausen’s funeral was on August 1, 2018 and was buried at St. James Cathedral Crypt.) He was the Archbishop of Seattle from 1975 to 1991.

Archbishop Hunthausen, perhaps, was the among the last group Bishops whom had attended the four sessions of Vatican II from 1962 – 1965. He often shared that the Second Vatican Council was indeed a “defining time” and shaped him as a Vatican II Bishop.

  • We celebrate the 17th Sunday in Ordinary time this week. From the book of Kings in the first reading, Solomon had just been installed as the third king of Israel, a lot of leadership fell to him. Solomon’s prayer for wisdom reveals a young king, unsure of himself at the outset of his reign.

The beginning of wisdom is the recognition that one needs wisdom. What did Solomon ask of his God?  First Solomon asked for an “understanding heart” and also asked that he might be able to “discern”!   This wisdom Solomon asked for was related to the role he was assigned. God was pleased with his prayer, and gave him not only what he has asked but also that for which he had not asked:  riches, honor, and glory. The story goes on to show how Solomon’s wisdom was such that Israel “stood in awe of the king, because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him”.

The unique moment in the life of one of the great kings of Israel described in 1 Kings 3 raises many questions for us. When asking for wisdom, we must believe that God will provide the wisdom we seek; we must trust God to do it in God’s own way, which usually means that we will be in partnership with God.

Where in our life is there need for wisdom?

Are we willing to partner with God to acquire this wisdom?

Do we have sufficient faith to believe that God will provide?

  • The children of religious education age from both our Prince of Peace and St. Gabriel Parishes, certainly, had a lot to share with their families and friends each day this past week, because they have learned, shared and do so much from a unique Social-Distanced and a very LEGO Vacation Bible School with the Mysteries of the Rosary.

On behalf of the Parish, I’d like to thank our Faith Formation Coordinator - Maria Murphree, Catechists, Volunteers and all members of Maria’s team – for your love, generosity of your time, talent and treasure for planning and executing the unique Vacation Bible School this year. May this event add to a “special memory” of your Summer this year.

  • “A word of thanks to the many families who have pledged and turned in your commitment envelopes to the Parish and Archdiocesan Office to support the Annual Catholic Appeal 2020 again this year. It’s not too late to participate …. we’ll be closer to our parish goal with your help today; your continue supports are as the critical testimony of the commitment for us to be “Church” today in our time. If you didn’t have an opportunity of filling your commitment envelope yet, please join with many of your parishioners to pledge toward our parish goal. Please see the bulletin to see how close we are to meet our parish personal goal.
  • While enjoying the “Summer rest”, please don’t forget our parishes – Gabriel and Prince of Peace

Christ’s Peace,
Fr. Phuong Hoang
